EVENT OFFERS CHANCE TO SHAPE SCOTLAND’S RESPONSE TO CLIMATE EMERGENCY
A nationwide conversation to discuss action to tackle the global climate emergency is set to take place this summer, and Renfrewshire South MSP Tom Arthur is encouraging his constituents to make their voices heard.
Last month, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon set out plans to give people, businesses, industry and the public sector across the country the opportunity to be part of the new Big Climate Conversation.
Now, as part of an initial wave of 6 public engagement events across Scotland, the Scottish Government is hosting Glasgow’s Big Climate Conversation at The Lighthouse on Tuesday 16 July from 5.30pm – 7.30pm.
The event is open to all and aims to reach as many people as possible to hear about their concerns, priorities and ideas on actions we can all take to combat climate change, as well as understanding what changes Scottish people are willing to make, and what they want their Government to do to tackle the global climate emergency.
Commenting, Tom Arthur MSP said:
“The SNP Government is setting world-leading targets to be the first country to reach net-zero emissions by 2045. Reaching our targets must be a shared, national endeavour involving people in their schools, workplaces and communities as well as government.
“The views shared at these conversations will help the Scottish Government develop a new public engagement strategy that will help Scotland transition to a greener and more sustainable society that we can all be proud of.
“I know that great work is already being done to combat climate change by various organisations across Renfrewshire South and this event represents an excellent opportunity to help shape Scotland’s response to the global climate emergency.
“I would encourage my constituents to go along on 16 July to have their say if possible. However, if you’re unable to make it along to the Glasgow event, the Scottish Government plans to publish information and materials to help people organise local Big Climate Conversation events soon.”
