Renfrewshire South MSP Tom Arthur held an event as part of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in his Johnstone constituency office this Friday afternoon (18 October), with visitors helping raise over £86.70. The sum will help the charity continue to fund life-changing tailored support and services for those affected by cancer.

Macmillan is almost entirely funded by donations and simply cannot support the growing number of people with cancer who need them without the public’s help. Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. There are over 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK and this is set to grow to almost 4 million by 2030.

Cancer can affect people’s whole lives – health, money, family, job; everything – and, after more than 100 years of caring, Macmillan recognise understand that the most important thing is to treat people as individuals, not patients.

Organiser Tom Arthur MSP said:

“The Coffee Afternoon was a great chance for people from across the local area to come together, while also raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“I’d like to thank everyone who came along to offer kind donations and delicious home baking, and my staff for all of their hard work in arranging a great event.

“I’m truly grateful to all those who supported us, every pound counts and will make such a difference to people living with cancer.”
