Tom Arthur MSP has said “the SNP are showing every day that the best decisions are those made in Scotland, for Scotland” after new figures show £829 million in financial support has been provided through Social Security Scotland’s five family payments.

This includes the game-changing Scottish Child Payment which supports over 329,000 children, with over £677 million paid since it was launched. New survey responses suggest the payment has helped the majority of recipients buy healthy food for their children, with the application process described as quick and straightforward.

Commenting, the SNP MSP for Renfrewshire South said:

“The SNP has consistently shown that the best decisions for are those made in Scotland, for Scotland; and nowhere is that clearer than in our social security system.

“With an approach rooted in dignity, fairness and respect we are supporting families and children across Renfrewshire South, we are making important progress towards the First Minister’s goal of eradicating child poverty.

“This is all while households across Renfrewshire South as a result of a Westminster-made cost of living crisis and Brexit, the effects of which are being mitigated by this SNP government.

“That’s why it is essential to vote SNP, to protect the most vulnerable in Scotland and put the interests of Scotland first.”
