TOM ARTHUR MSP HIGHLIGHTS DAMNING YOUGOV POLL

Tom Arthur MSP is highlighting new polling results, released today by YouGov, which show new Tory leader Boris Johnson entering Number 10 with a rock bottom approval rating of minus 53 and 65% of Scottish voters believing he will be a “poor” or “terrible” Prime Minister.

This data has delivered a damning verdict on the new Prime Minister among Scots – revealing that he is viewed as overwhelmingly incompetent, untrustworthy and out of touch.

Fewer than 1 in 10 people think Mr Johnson will be able to negotiate a deal with the European Union, with just 98 days remaining until the 31st October deadline.

68% do not trust Boris Johnson with our NHS, which is under immediate threat from a post-Brexit trade deal between the UK and Donald Trump.

Indeed, over 70% consider Mr Johnson as “Britain’s Trump” – with an overwhelming majority concluding that is bad news for Scotland.

Figures show that 69% think the new Prime Minister is incompetent, 71% consider him untrustworthy and 76% say he is out of touch.

Commenting on these findings, Renfrewshire South MSP Tom Arthur said:

“This poll is proof that the people of Scotland have absolutely no faith that the new Prime Minister will stand up for Scotland’s interests – and it’s clear to see why.

“He’s willing to put Scottish jobs and the future of our NHS at risk and, after appointing the most right-wing, hard-line Cabinet imaginable, he’s gearing up to send us crashing out of the EU with No Deal.

“It is becoming increasingly clear why Scotland’s interests simply cannot be protected by Westminster. Scotland must have the choice to choose a better future with independence.”
