Tom Arthur, MSP for Renfrewshire South, recently met with the ladies of Barrhead Badminton Club at their training session in Barrhead Foundry to present them with a Scottish Parliamentary motion congratulating them on bravely zip-lining across the Clyde, raising £5,000 for Breast Cancer Care.

The ten women braved a 150 foot drop in their efforts to raise money for the charity which offers valuable care and support to those battling breast cancer.

Chatting to the members about their decision to back Breast Cancer Care, one woman told Tom about her fight against breast cancer, which inspired the group to take up the challenge.

Commenting, Tom said:

“The ladies of Barrhead Badminton Club must be commended not just for their efforts to raise a substantial £5,000 for Breast Cancer Care, but also for their bravery in doing so.

“Breast Cancer Care are an excellent charity who offer additional support to those affected by breast cancer. They must be recognised for the great work they do to help people in their time of need through free talks, courses and monthly meet-ups between patients and ex-patients.

“The Scottish Government is committed to fighting breast cancer and will therefore continue to implement the new cancer strategy.

“Over the next five years, £100 million will be invested to enhance cancer services, improving outcomes, and reducing inequalities, as well as promoting greater consistency of access to treatment across the country. “

“The fundraising by this fantastic team will help provide valuable support for those who need it. I admire the ladies’ enthusiasm for helping others while having fun. I wish them the very best and look forward to all their future efforts.”
